As an on call manager I am required to work odd hours, day and night. I can be asked to drive from anywhere between Wollongong to Newcastle and Sydney to Lithgow. This has lead to fatigue causing the dreaded "micro sleep".
Recently after some long hours at work I had an accident driving home. Stuck in a traffic jam I had a micro sleep which caused me to release the pressure off the brake pedal causing me to hit the car in front. The damage was minor but it could easily have been worse. This was not the first time I had a micro sleep but the first time it led to an accident.
Since the accident I have been very conscience of the possibility of this happening again. You know you should stop but you don't think about it when you are tired.
When the Driver Fatigue Alarm was being discussed on a radio program I decided to buy one, no matter what cost. When they said it was only $19.95 I couldn't believe that such a cheap item could literally save lives.
The Driver Fatigue Alarm was demonstrated for me when I went to buy it. I was so impressed I bought two, the vibration model one for work and the sound model for personal use. I now use it whenever I drive because it's hard to tell when that micro sleep will happen.
I am now looking at buying one for each of my drivers as well because even if it saves one life or prevents an accident the money would have been well spent.
I believe there should be one in every car where drivers work long hours or drive long distances in the same way as you would carry a first aid kit. Rest should always be considered but at times when it’s unavoidable then the Driver Fatigue Alarm is a godsend. |

Hi Driver Fatigue Alarm,
I just wanted to say that I have been on a rotating 12 hour shift worker for the past 18 years working for a large multinational company. This job requires me to work long night shifts, starting from 7pm and finishing at 7am, and then I have a very long (and sometimes scary) 20 minute drive home. My experience has shown me that no matter how long you work night shifts your body never really gets used to the fatigue of working through the night.
My elderly mother, to her credit, saw one of these devices and she thought it would be a great investment for my well being and safety. The fact that she is a pensioner did make me feel somewhat bad as I initially felt that she paid for a gimmick device that wouldn't live up to expectations.
I used the device for about two weeks without any real need for it but just when I thought it wasn't useful this cheap little unit potentially saved my life. It was during one of my long drives home after night shift that I realised how good these devices are. I wasn't feeling particularly tired this one morning and I was actually very close to home when I had a small micro sleep and started to drift across to the other side of the road. Luckily the device worked a treat and woke me up and prevented a serious accident. Although there were no other cars on the road that morning I was fearful just exactly where I might have ended up!!
The incident especially left me with some "cold chill" now that I have seen your most recent advertisement which shows a little red car, similar to the one I own, crumpled to bits. I know that could have very easily been me.
So I just wanted to say thanks for inventing such a great, cheap and reliable device. I would like to see the OHS Department at work take the initiative and make these available to all shift workers who have to travel after night shift.
If it only saves one life it will be worth it - and for me I guess that has already happened.

I have been a Motor Home owner for more than 20 years, and the Driver Fatigue Alarm is one of the best technologies I have used to help me to deal with driver fatigue and micro-sleep. My work requires travelling to see clients at night, so I'm driving a few nights a week. On occasions I have definitely experienced driver fatigue.
Recently I had a frighten moment during the middle of the day. I was driving back from an appointment, and felt asleep just for a few seconds. I guess that's the "micro sleep" you often hear about, anyway I found myself in the next lane.
I was very lucky that no cars were beside me, otherwise I would have crashed into them. I told a friend my experience and the next day they gave me a present - the "driver fatigue alarm".
I put the driver fatigue alarm to use the next day for a work trip of 400kms each way. I set it so it would go off with just the slightest nod forward, may be a bit super sensitive, but I'd rather have a nice vibration in my ear than a crashed car or worse. It did go off a few times, and I am glad I had it on. I think this wonderful little gadget is amazing, and worth every cent. I'm amazed how affordable it is for the value it offers.

I am very happy to tell you that I tested both versions of the Driver Fatigue Alarm on my recent road trip in the USA. After the 13 hours flight to Los Angeles I picked up my Mustang Convertible then headed off to Arizona. I was comforted to know that I had the alarm on just in case I dropped off to sleep. I purchase it quite some time back however have used it extensively over the last 3 months. My wife was diagnosed with a brain tumour and I have had many trips between Hillston Wagga and Sydney.
As well as working so well for myself it has also given my wife peace of mind as she is always worried about my micro sleeps which I have suffered from for many years. I am in my late 60's and sometimes in the afternoon while driving I have doze off a few times. It's very scary when that happens. I use it on all lengthy drives and test it by nodding my head. Fortunately I have not had a micro-sleep at the wheel recently. I take the problem of driver fatigue seriously because I have had two near accidents in the past involving micro-sleeps. I have been using a sleep-apnea machine for some years. I would recommend your Driver Fatigue Alarm as a useful aid to the problem of micro-sleeps for all drivers and machinery operators. It is not a substitute for general alertness and healthy sleep patterns and breaks on long drives. It supports these measures.

A few months ago, I purchased a Driver Fatigue Alarm, Vibration Type.
Since then, I have tested the alarm on drives to Melbourne and Port Macquarie. Although I did not experience a micro sleep on these trips, I tested the unit by tilting my head and the vibrations gave a good alert.
I chose the vibration type because background noise in vehicles could mask the alert sound.
The driver fatigue alarm is a safety device that is easily installed and effective. It also makes a good gift for all drivers. |

Few months ago I purchased Driver Fatigue Alarm, which was advertised. The sound emitting unit has since been with me in the car and I have used it when night driving alone. This alarm devise is simplistic in design, yet it provides much needed additional safety by alerting the driver when fatigue starts to set in.
